Magicseaweed.com’s weekend surf forecast was five-star. And it did not disappoint.
7 couples descended on California’s Bodega Bay, not only known for it’s epic surf, but also for being part of the ‘Red Triangle’: defined in Wikipedia as, ‘a roughly triangle-shaped region off the coast of northern California, extending from Bodega Bay, north of San Francisco, out to a bit beyond the Farallon Islands, and down to the Big Sur region, south of Monterey. The area has a very large population of marine mammals, such as elephant seals, harbor seals, sea otters, and sea lions, which are a favored meal of great white sharks.’ Yes the threat of sharks is REAL.
With overhead waves and the threat of sharks you’d think we choose to stay on the beach. Yeah right. I only made it outside once and I’m not sure what had me gripped more, the huge sets that came rolling in or being there by myself, constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure I wasn’t being joined by a circling fin.
The outside sets were tubing and after breaking would graciously build up again and provide excellent surf on the inside. We were like kids in a candy store!
