Early morning Wednesday the competition wave is dialed in, within minutes of the first scheduled country’s training slot. For the next 4 days from 8am to 8pm the wave is blocked for nation training (with the exception of today when it is closed 7am to 10pm – yikes!). Canadians have now had two scheduled training times, both in the morning. Based on those sessions I think we average about six rides a session. It’s better than nothing but merely a taste of what you really want.

It’s a game to figure out when to paddle, how long your patience can last in the eddy and if it’s really worth it to wake up at 3am? Starting tonight there will be lights on the feature all night making those wee hours of the morning a little more manageable.

Personally, I’ve had less than 20 rides since the wave turned on. Crazy when you consider how easy it would be to have that many rides on a regular day.

My third time in Thun, it’s as beautiful as ever. I’m staying at an awesome little B&B not far downstream of the feature in the river right channel. I’ve got a big, bright room and have found great house mates in the Craig family. Luckily it is just us in this nice home where we share common space and use of a modern kitchen.

So far I’m staying close to Thun. Haven’t wondered into the mountains or onto the trails, but I know they’re there waiting for me when I’m ready. I’ve been biking and walking around town a bit but it’s such a tease as I find myself desperately trying to hold back from shopping.

Sun is shinning so it’s time for me to get back outside. More on the World Championships in Thun to follow.
